Emesa Hundred
Emesa Hundred [C6] is the northernmost hundred of Hohnam, itself the northern shire of the Kingdom of Rethem. It takes its name from the settlement of Emesa which is also the economic center of the hundred. Most of the hundred is uninhabited forest wilderness fringing the Gulf of Pendos and beyond the control of its holders.
Temporal power over the cultivated portion of the hundred resides with the Warriors of Mameka, at Bedenes. However, the small town of Emesa is essential to the local economy. Its annual Beast Fair sees whale oil from Alesen, and the fruits of the Peran forests, exchanged for the finer products of southern civilization. For the rest of the year its small market is essential to the flow of trade across the hundred on which the manors rely. Apart from the Beast Fair the south knows little of Emesa, though its boast of being the “gateway to Peran” attracts a slow stream of adventurers and fools who believe the wilderness will make them rich. More often it makes them dead.
