In-universe[edit source]

Hârnica’s primary point of view is that of a character inside the fictional Ketherian universe – a perspective where Kethis, the planet where the content of Lythia and Hârn “exist”.

Hârnica articles should be written as if the described person, object, or event actually existed or occurred, exactly like in a normal encyclopedia, but with an omniscient writer. Think of Hârnica as an encyclopedia that exists in the Ketherian universe.

Use:

“…Genin is one of several Melderyni wizards (?) whose actions have periodically affected the history of mainland Hârn. Of obscure motivation, Genin seems first to have made his presence felt during the Aleathian Odyssey, when he met the refugees on the island of Keboth…”

Instead of:

“…Genin is the famous wizard non-player character, from the HârnWorld fantasy-world setting…“

Tense[edit source]

Because HârnWorld setting has established 720 TR as the “starting point” and “current state” of the [[HârnWorld’’ setting (aka as p-Hârn it is important to write all articles from a single perspective: i.e. that of someone looking back at the past from the year 720TR. This helps to keep Hârnica consistent and understandable. A specific point in time has not been defined, but if it helps, pretend that we're writing and viewing this data archive at the start of 720 TR, this will allow {GM}}s to adjust accordingly to the time-frame of their particular p-Hârn.

This means using the past tense in almost all instances where the subject is talking about “historical” actions and activities of persons, beings, etc. If however it is purely definitional statements on articles about a concept (which can be considered “eternal”) - these should be written in present tense. For example, an article about any specific person who is not “alive” in the year 720 TR should be written in past tense from beginning to end. An article about a city that “currently” exists in 720, however, should start with a definition that is written in present tense (“Tashal is the largest settlement of Kaldor and the second largest city on Hârn.”), before changing to past tense for discussing events within the reminder of the article that occurred in the city prior to the “present” time-frame of 720 TR (“The city was founded in 128 by Shala of Kephria on the ruins of Kelapyn-Anuz, formerly an eastern outpost of Lothrim’s empire that had been plundered in 121.”).

Changing sources and real-world background information[edit source]

Several approaches can be taken when taking real-world source material and re-working it to bring it “in-universe”. This section will discuss several of those methods.
